Out early this morning blowing leaves & small debris around our home in Clemmons, just after returning from the devastating storm in Watauga County & western NC.
My mind was filled with gratitude and simultaneously, remorse when reflecting on those now with no home, or flood insurance!
I am so blessed (and intend to be a blessing in this moment), knowing that I am just one generation from a post- depression family, who lost farm land and everything!
Then a high school graduate (Ben Bost) thrown immediately into World War II, yet willing to struggle his way back from certain trauma, providing for his spouse (Mom) by way of a low pay hosiery mill job in a small apartment, later a dream realized by way of a 4 room home they could own!
Then the GI Bill afforded a larger dream, later relocating to W-S with 4 kids, and at times 2 jobs, then finally his own masonry company with a dream of college for his kids.
Now here I set, so blessed and with my one child blessed as well, with grandkids that can dream big, and with few hurdles.
Then suddenly my grateful heart called me back to the reality of so many who were just where I am, but for last Thursday, Helene!
They are now with no home, or even running water. Some still trying to locate the bodies of family members.
Life is unpredictable and when we are blessed, it is then to be a blessing. It's time to love our neighbors, if not on site, by way of provision by whatever means possible.
You and I have been blessed glad you and your wife is safe
