"It is finished"
I was once told by a council person during my season as a local mayor, that I was the most religious of mayors yet elected!
Though meant as a compliment, I detest rigid uber-religious behavior, even when well intended. Yet, it seems we humans all have some sense of requirement by a "higher power" that in our minds demands alignment and appeasement.
Numerous religious orientations across our tiny globe have long structured sacred rules, meant to better guide moral principal and righteousness.
Somehow this seems necessary for us, slow learners all hoping for a better life and even some hereafter!
Then after millennia of such, this Being penetrates the galaxies, his entry long prophesied: born of a virgin, though descendant of Abraham, with even the place of birth earlier named.
He spoke truth to religion, then willingly satisfied the requirements for our substitute, our shortcomings, at least per the religion of his virgin mom, Judaism, the perfect Lamb slain!
This fully human, pain suffering as much as we all, so radically lived love, that the numeration of the centuries required a fresh start...Anno Domini!
Jesus, the substitute for every requirement set forth, every jot & tittle resolved, just so all would know how much they are truly loved! Religion had done a number on us, but God simplified the math!
"Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; they will flog him and kill him. "It is finished"...now if we could just live into that reality, what a world that would be.
