Politics and Religion a Volatile Mix!

I can't help but comment on my read through the last few chapters of Acts this a.m.

Paul had incited much religious debate within the Sanhedrin that it's leaders, the Pharisees and Sadducees can no longer "work across the aisle." Sound familiar?

In fact, such rage then breaks out that they begin to consider killing Paul, once one of them!

As well, these religious leaders were also on the radar of the politicians of their day, and once word got to a local commander, warned by the son of Paul's sister, he rescued Paul, escorting him out of town with a couple hundred soldiers.

Keep in mind these were the religious leaders of that day. They would soon show up before the governor, all lawyered up to present their case against this "ringleader".

The impact of these religious leaders was apparently minimal as it seems the politicians were more impressed with Paul than his accusers.

Scattered throughout the last few chapters are clues of how the political culture had learned to manipulate the religious, hoping for bribes, granting favors when necessary, then passing the buck to upline officials when it got a little testy.

All of them clueless as to the "why" behind such fuss and "dispute...about religion and some dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive."

All this sounds so familiar in this crazy moment in America Christianity!
