Religion and The Three Brains

Strange title but yesterday in a conversation with a group of Christian men, I tried to explain that we were designed in the image of God!

That's the one sure takeaway from Moses' inspiration that seems absolute!

As to the three brains: Gut, Heart and Head.

The gut for discernment, but when accurately assessing a "hunch", the second brain comes into play.

That brain holds our values and is enhanced by our relationship with the Creator, whom I believe was the very God manifest in Jesus.

Christ was not his last name, but rather the concept of God in man, as demonstrated by Jesus.

If the first brain's read on a situation is "Go!" and that does not violate the values held in yoir second brain, then proceed to the third, this brain designed for rational risk management.

If you can manage the risk, move forward as quickly as possible.

If it seems right to the heart, but the risk is too high...the gut is simply discerning your need to grow, until you can manage the risk, even though it seems in the present too threatening. That's called trust!

Why did I feel the need to express such in a Biblical setting where scripture was being shared, Religion.

Christianianity with all her stripes is a religion, just like Islam and Judaism.

If you are offended by that last paragraph then likely, religion has you in the third brain, attempting to obey its rules.

Jesus didn't teach religion, he challenged it and yet in his righteous lived up to its demands.

Had Judaism been The Way alone, he would have validated its numerous demands...the Pharisees would have loved him!

Had Christianity and those professing such not been as cruel during the Crusades, those who choose to follow Mohammed, many who revere Jesus, would likely be less challenging of Christianity, or Judaism.

But you say, was said to me in the meeting,

"John, we were born into sin according to Moses? No good, rotten sinners, even Jesus said we must be "born again".

My guess is Jesus' words were his attempts at awakening this practicing hebrew, Nicodemus to the need for a new mindset...metanoia.

God keep our third brain from locking into religion, so that our hearts might better obey the Word when spoken by the Spirit, the Christ in us..."the hope of glory!"
