"And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."
Genesis 11:4 ASV
Whether you view this as allegory or fact, this verse is packed with the realities of our common human struggle.
Our desire for ascent, a higher place, the need to leave some footprint, evidence of our being; making "a name for ourselves", and underlying that perhaps, a silent, but gnawing fear of loss of all that we have created, even of our homeland.
None of that can be remedied by trusting "our own understanding" but by daily turning toward the One who knows the very number of "hairs on your head" ever awaiting you with open arms...the Prodigal Father!
