Liberty

This morning as I conclude Jeremiah's Lamentation, I am convinced more than ever, both of his divine inspiration, as well as his disturbing human filter, creating a biased anguish given the actions of the "children" of Isreal. And anguish contrary to the nature of God as revealed in the Christ.

In many ways we're all like "children," even us older dudes.

All these thoughts I'm sure emerging in part because we are celebrating our 250th year as a nation, one initially formed around the idea of freedom for all people.

So much so that in 1865, another nation provided us a gift, a large statue to be positioned at a main entry point of our own, intended to ever remind us of this new experiment with liberty, a promised freedom that would exceed words on a paper or even those carved in stone.

At the base of that statue a long revered declaration: ""Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore."

Yet of late, like Jeremiah, I am feeling somewhat grieved, even in this long period of national celebration. Something seems broken, yet as well troubled in that so many remain blind to the possibilities given the deadening digital noise in our heads.

Noise fed by a politicized media and a majority party that daily stokes the fears of the very ones named at the base of Lady Liberty.

Of late focusing on a false fear of communism, added to a recent and robust emphasis upon religion. Then this morning, the president's spokesperson stirring additional angst among parents with a rhetoric around indoctrination of our children within the public schools.

As a lifelong advocate of public schools, those also supporting school choice, using that platform to foster fear is disgusting.

All this heading into the November election cycle, I sudpect it strategic in resistance to the possibility of growing alliance among those awakening to the reality of their present unrestrained power.

What's also troubling is the current ruling majority earlier promise of a flourishing economy for everyone and yes, with fewer wars...implying true liberty for all.

Like Jeremiah, I do wish to offer overtones of hope, though not by way of government or institutionalized religious nationalism.

My trust is in the One with a greater plan for mankind, a plan reflected first in the design of the cosmos.

For instance, some astrophysicists believe the very confining shape of the universe to be that of a design recently reintroduced to me by a dear friend.

"The Poincaré dodecahedral space model, purports that the universe is finite but has no edges or boundaries. Instead, it acts like a 12-sided mathematical mirror. If you traveled in one direction long enough, you would eventually loop back to where you started, viewing the universe from a different angle. This configuration mathematically explains why certain light waves cannot stretch beyond a specific length, perfectly matching the unusual "quietness" observed in the early universe's radiation."

If by design, even the length of our light rays have been predetermined so as to align with a "quiteness" with our universe, surely a similar quietness will soon return to our own hearts and minds, the long promised liberty sustained not by weapons of war, the devices of government, but the very forces of Creation as demonstrated by the galaxies and foretold within the text of scripture.
