As I read this a.m., I can only imagine the tension in Judas' mind as Jesus washed his feet, and the raw compassion and courage it took for Jesus as a human to treat him no differently than all the other disciples, later even calling him friend!
Now imagine yourself treating those whom you know at times to conspire against you with the same compassion and love!
Sounds niave, but that is the Jesus way, though quite the contrast to Western Christianity!
"He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” [8] “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean."
John 13:6-11 NIV
His eye is on the sparrow, yes the one that flew against my glass door as I was writing this! I opened the door, picked it up, prayed over it, sat it down, it looked at me, then flew away!
And, I know He watches me (And you)!
This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It helps to remind me to forgive people who have wronged me
