"My Church is in foreclosure", December 28, 2008."

These words "spoken" to me on the aforementioned day, came back to me this week when I saw an announcement that the large edifice, which held the congregation that drew me back to my hometown was scheduled for demolition.

As well, just this morning I listened to a well-known, though controversial brother, share his thoughts in this way: "we're using an 8 track methodology in a streaming world."

I then decided I'd ask AI about this now sixteen-year-old publication:

"REPO: The Church in Foreclosure" is a book by John R. Bost exploring the concept of the church facing potential or actual foreclosure, metaphorically and literally. The book uses the idea of "REPO" (a term often associated with repossession) to examine the church's relationship with its mission, resources, and accountability.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Metaphorical Foreclosure:

The book uses foreclosure as a metaphor for the church losing its way or failing to fulfill its purpose. This could involve a decline in membership, a loss of spiritual vitality, or a failure to address societal needs.

  • Literal Foreclosure:

The book also touches on the very real possibility of churches facing financial difficulties and being forced into foreclosure. This can be due to factors like declining attendance, mismanagement of funds, or economic downturns.

  • John R. Bost's Perspective:

The author, John R. Bost, is described as having a "heart for the Lord" and experience as a pastor, teacher, coach, and servant. He offers insights into the challenges faced by churches and the need for spiritual renewal and accountability.

  • Call to Action:

The book encourages churches to examine their current state, address potential issues, and strive to remain true to their calling. It may also serve as a call to action for individuals and communities to support struggling churches.

Interesting and painful!
