As I read in Jeremiah 7, were Isreal to follow her own prophets when seeing outside forces coming against them, they might see it as God using brutality to drive them to repentance, rather than a justification for massacre.

As for those of the Christian faith, supporting such brutal response in light of who Christ was seems equal error. Still yet, the more fundamentalist of Christians see this as "signs of the times" and almost applaud the moment as one hastening the day when Christ will return, perhaps preferring an exit strategy over compassion.
Even my Muslim friends, some in Gaza, now see this bloodshed as opportunity for martyrdom, an assurance of heaven!
Thankfully, not all of us are there or no trucks would be trying to deliver relief to Gaza!

Of course, we also have American politics to deal with, left and right, hawks and doves, neither likely understand terrorists strategies (cease fires) or have felt the true suffering of homes destroyed and muffled cries of children as drones hover and missiles descend.
My apologies to the Veterans among us who have suffered the brunt of such madness now for decades!

If our allegiance is to the scriptures, mercy seems to be the heart of God in both the Old and New Testament.
Prophecy may simply be G-d's way of leaking the inevitable when humans choose sides out of hate!
Plainly evident with such prophecies is the destruction that comes from uber-religious response, though I understand the context of Jeremiah's writing, and the theological error that will embolden many readers to respond to my "idiocy" with a "that was then and this is now", a rational of avoidance!

"And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
